Days Ahead of Dobbs Anniversary, Texas Medical Board Guidance Remains Unclear for Physicians, Pregnant Patients

AUSTIN, Texas – Today, Texas Democratic Party Executive Director Monique Alcala issued the following statement on the Texas Medical Board guidance for conducting emergency abortion care:

“The rampant healthcare crisis endangering Texas women is a direct consequence of Republicans overturning Roe v. Wade, letting Texas' near-total abortion ban take effect and creating untenable chaos, confusion, and uncertainty across the state. Make no mistake: We’ve only gotten to this point because of people like Ted Cruz, who spent years laying the groundwork for outlawing almost all abortion in Texas, pushing for and celebrating the fall of Roe, and praising the extreme ban as ‘perfectly reasonable.’

“The undue burden that still remains for healthcare providers forced to navigate vague and restrictive laws, often at the expense of timely and necessary medical interventions, cannot be allowed to stand. In November, Texans will reject the Republicans like Cruz who put us in this position.”
