Let’s end the Tampon and Diaper Tax!

State Representative Donna Howard has introduced two bills that would end the sales tax on tampons (HB 311) and on diapers (HB 313).

These proposals have never been heard in committee before, so the time to shed light on these important proposals is now!

Too many hardworking families are struggling to make ends meet. Texas women and families should not be taxed for diapers and feminine hygiene products. They are medical necessities. A sales tax exemption for feminine hygiene products and diapers would help working Texas families, especially young women and single mothers. Each cent spent to pay sales tax on these already expensive items could easily be put to better use to fill the remainder of the household budget.

Let’s make sure Rep. Burrows (R-Lubbock) knows how important these bills are to working Texans.

Hi, my name is (NAME) and I am calling today to urge Chairman Burrows to hear HB 311 and HB 313 by Rep. Donna Howard in next week’s Ways and Means Committee meeting.

HB 311 eliminates the sales tax associated with feminine hygiene products, like tampons and pads. This bill would help women and girls who must have these products keep more of their paychecks.

HB 313 would similarly eliminate the sales tax associated with child and adult diapers. This bill would provide an enormous financial relief to all of Texas’ working families and working single mothers.

Can I count on him to add these bills to the hearing?
