Thank you so much for taking your time to sit down with us again. We hear that y’all have some really exciting information to share with us, y’all are engaged! Congratulations. Could you please tell us how it all went down?
Cassidy: Day 3 of convention was a long one, between The Lady Bird Breakfast, multiple trainings, and the general session I was exhausted! As the general session came to a close, we started to make our way out of the convention center. Cassidy mentioned heading down to one of our favorite spots for a drink to unwind and I was 110% ready for a drink. As we’re walking, we stop to admire the JFK Memorial. I spotted a friend, Zach, and started up a conversation. A few minutes later, a lady walks up to us and says “HEY! We need to clear out, someone is about to propose!”. I immediately thought to myself “where is Cassidy?! We need to get out of here!” when I turned around to find Cassidy, alone…. it hit me in that moment, that he was the one who was going to propose…. I immediately started crying, people all around us were cheering and clapping but I don’t remember any of it. All I remember is Cassidy with tears in his eyes asking me to spend the rest of our lives together. Our good friend Pete, with 2902 Media, was hidden taking photos of our special moment.
As I continued to cry and hug everyone around me, I realized we were never headed for that drink. Cassidy mentioned we were meeting Pete for some more photos at another location, so off we went. We pulled up to one of our favorite local theaters, Amphibian Stage Productions, and headed inside.. yet again, another surprise. As we entered, I found some of our closest friends and family members ready to celebrate with us. Tears started flowing all over again and suddenly everything made much more sense. My mother, who spends her summers in Colorado, didn’t make the special trip back to Texas for the convention, she came for our proposal. My friends who all had strange reasons to leave the convention early had really been working with Cassidy on his plan all along! Cassidy’s always dressed to impress but it made more sense as to why he kept asking if I wanted to change into something nicer for the general session…. but leave it to me to say no and stick with my comfortable attire.
However, the attire was fitting. Cassidy and I met 2 years ago at the State Democratic Convention in San Antonio while I was wearing a fairly controversial “abortion dress” and here we are, 2 years later, getting engaged while wearing the same abortion print on a t-shirt. We spent the next few hours hugging our friends and family, taking tons of photos, and finally having that drink I was promised. I’ll never forget that day…. we’re currently planning our wedding with 2020 in mind.
