AUSTIN, Texas -- Today, Texas Democratic Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa released the following statement congratulating Mitchell Jordan on being elected Mayor of Palestine, Texas – the first Black Texan to be elected to the position:

“I speak on behalf of Texas Democrats across the state when I offer a heartfelt congratulations to Mayor-elect Mitchell Jordan – the first Black Texan to hold the role in the city’s history. Your historic election shows that Texas Democrats are making strides in East Texas, and more importantly, highlights that we must continue to run everywhere and campaign on our shared values.

“Your campaign has shown us the leader you will be: one who is dedicated to the well-being of Palestine’s hardworking families, laser-focused on the issues that matter in their day-to-day lives, always with a servant's heart above all else.
