Texas Democrats Join Williamson County Democrats in Denouncing Nationally-Recognized Hate Group’s Participation in Round Rock’s July 4 Parade
AUSTIN, Texas -- Today, in advance of the City of Round Rock’s July 4th parade, Texas Democratic Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa, and Kim Gilby, County Chair of the Williamson County Democratic Party, issued the following joint statement condemning Moms for Liberty’s participation in a sacred community tradition:
“Hate has no place in Round Rock, Williamson County, or in Texas. Moms for Liberty is a cancerous influence on public discourse, and has proven to communities across Texas that their goals are not rooted in the pursuit of liberty, but rather, in the pursuit of a more exclusionary public education system.
“Moms for Liberty is a nationally-recognized hate group that organizes extremists across Texas, and in other states, to ram non-inclusive policies through local school boards, and run extremist candidates for school board positions. Just a few weeks ago, a chapter of Moms for Liberty quoted Adolf Hitler in their wide-distribution newsletter.
“After years of working to disrupt and dismantle our public schools by running right-wing extremist candidates for local school boards, and funneling massive amounts of dark money into those campaigns, they want to infiltrate one of our state’s most sacred public spaces – local July 4th parades. Though we understand the group's right to participate is protected by the First Amendment, we are disappointed to know that a Nazi-sympathizing organization like Moms for Liberty is co-opting what should be nothing other than a joyous and family-friendly celebration of our nation’s independence here in Williamson County.”
