Nikki Haley Rallies with Extreme MAGA Billionaire Backer

In response to Nikki Haley’s visit to Dallas and San Antonio, Texas this week, Texas Democratic Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa released the following statement:

“Nikki Haley is coming to Texas this week and with her comes billionaire donors, more anti-abortion extremism, and lies. In her race towards the bottom with Donald Trump, Haley is fundraising in secret with Harlan Crow – who showered Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas with millions of dollars worth of gifts – while trying to spin her extreme anti-abortion record, her ties to notorious election deniers, and her support for gutting Social Security and Medicare. Haley’s long record of support for the extreme MAGA agenda makes it clear: Texans can’t trust her to look out for them and their fundamental freedoms.”

Haley has doubled down on her support for Texas’s extreme abortion ban and made clear she would sign a nationwide abortion ban.

New York Times: “Q: Would you sign a 6-week abortion ban if you were governor?” the post said. “Haley: Yes”

Haley: “So what can we do? Is there room for a federal law? I think there is room for a federal law.”

Haley: “Yes of course I would sign [a federal ban].”

Haley: “When it comes to a federal bill, I think there is a place for that.”

TIME: “The law passed the General Assembly last week and blocks women from having abortions after 19 weeks of pregnancy, with no exceptions for rape or incest. … Doctors who violate the law could face a fine or jail time.”

Haley has come under fire for saying she didn’t know the details of Kate Cox’s devastating situation and dodging multiple questions on the topic.

Jonathan Karl: “Do you think the Supreme Court in Texas made the wrong decision … Can you give a direct answer now?”

Haley: “I mean, the Supreme Court said that the law that the state put was the one that they had to follow, right?”

Karl: “Do you disagree with that decision by the Texas Supreme Court?”

Haley: “Well, I think it is the right thing that unelected justices no longer decide this. … I appreciate that Texas went more on the pro-life side.”

Dana Bash: “How would you make it more human to let Kate Cox deal with this, because she had to leave the state?”

Haley: “I don’t know the exact details of the Texas law.”

Haley has a yearslong anti-abortion record of supporting efforts to rip away women’s freedoms.

Politico: “Haley, who ‘often clashed with members of her party because she labeled them insufficiently conservative’ on abortion,

  • ‘co-sponsored legislation in 2009 mandating a 24-hour waiting period between a woman’s abortion consultation and the procedure itself’

  • ‘voted to end abortion coverage for victims of rape and incest in the state health plan for employees’

  • ‘signed the most conservative abortion bill South Carolina Republicans were able to pass through both chambers at the time,’ and the law did not include exceptions for rape and incest.’”

Haley is holding a fundraiser with wealthy donors including Harlan Crow who was caught up in an investigation for showering Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas with millions while the court issues rulings related to his business.

Bloomberg: “Real estate developer Harlan Crow, oil and gas producer Ray Lee Hunt and billionaire Trevor Rees-Jones are among the dozens of donors who are slated to host a fundraiser for Nikki Haley’s presidential bid this week.”

“Other co-hosts for Thursday’s event include real estate developer Ross Perot Jr.; Saltoro Capital LP’s chief investment officer Vishal Bhutani; tech entrepreneur Mark Haidar; banker James Huffines; Fortress Investment Group’s Drew McKnight; HN Capital Partners LLC’s Vipin Nambiar; political operative Karl Rove’s wife, lobbyist Karen Johnson Rove; and Robert Dedman Jr., whose father founded ClubCorp, the largest owner and operator of private golf and country clubs in the US.”

It’s no surprise that Haley fundraises with billionaires given her hypocrisy when it comes to cozying up to big business foreign lobbyists.
