AUSTIN, Texas – Today, Texas Democratic Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa issues a statement following violent Prairie View A&M homecoming event near the campus:

“Another celebratory weekend has resulted in violence leaving yet another Texas community traumatized. A shooting took place near Prairie View A&M that left six adults and one child with non-life-threatening injuries. And while we are grateful for the first responders and law enforcement that arrived quickly to the scene, Texas Democrats stand strong in condemning any and all gun violence that arises in our state. Texas Republicans’ reckless carry laws are wreaking havoc amongst our communities, and we will continue to see violence occur in our classrooms, shopping centers, and public spaces until something is done. We pray for the victims in this senseless act of violence, and reaffirm our commitment to keeping our communities safe.”
