RELEASE: Texas Democrats and DC Democrats to Host Friendly Wager on World Series Results

Texas Democrats Believe Astros will #TakeItBack, DC Democrats Betting on Nationals to #StayInTheFight

Austin, TX and Washington, DC — Today, ahead of the World Series matchup between Texas’ own Houston Astros and the Washington Nationals, the Texas Democratic Party and DC Democratic Party announced it would host a friendly wager based on the outcome of the World Series.

The first-place Houston Astros, winners of the AL West are facing the Washington Nationals, winners of the NL Wild Card.

Should the Washington team come out victorious, the Texas Democratic Party agrees to 1) Wear Nationals garb in front of the Texas State Capitol, 2) Bring the DC Democrats a case of Texas-brewed victory beer to the Democratic National Convention in Milwaukee, and 3) film a video announcing their support of DC statehood.

Should the Astros win, the DC Democratic Party has agreed to 1) Wear Astros garb in front of the US Capitol, 2) Bring the Texas Democrats a case of DC Brau’s Joint Resolution IPA and a bottle of DC’s finest Mumbo Sauce to the Democratic National Convention in Milwaukee and 3) Film a video yelling Texas is the biggest battleground state for all to hear.

Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa issued the following statement:

“Fresh off winning more games than any other team during the regular season, the Texas Democratic Party knows the Houston Astros will win the World Series. We’re running hot and can’t be stopped. After the Astros show up and shut them down during this World Series, we look forward to seeing our friends in DC wear Astros garb in front of the United States Capitol and acknowledge that Texas is the biggest battleground state in the country. Let’s take it back!”

District of Columbia Democratic Party Chair Charles Wilson issued the following statement:

“What a remarkable season it has been for the Washington Nationals! All season, we stayed in the fight. Now it’s time to finish that fight against the Houston Astros and bring the World Series championship home to the nation’s 51st state, the District of Columbia. We cannot wait to see our friends in Texas sporting their newly minted curly W championship hats on the steps of the capitol building in Austin in honor of our victory and in support of DC statehood.”
