AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa issued a statement following the passage of HB 6: 

“Today, Texas House Republicans passed an inhumane bill that places already-vulnerable migrants in harm's way. Pushed by Greg Abbott’s billionaire oligarchs and white supremacist sympathizers, HB 6 will spend $1.5 billion of taxpayer dollars to fund death traps along our southern border, including razor wire and buoys lined with saw blades. These death traps have already caused injury and death along the border, and have been labeled as human rights violations from multiple human rights groups resulting in a federal investigation by the Biden Administration. In short – instead of working to address our issues at the southern border with data-driven, humane proposals like our Texas House Democrats, bloodthirsty Republicans are choosing violence once again.”
