Texas Democratic Party on President-elect Joe Biden’s Selection of Jamie Harrison as the next DNC Chair and Texas Congressman Filemon Vela as DNC Vice-Chair

AUSTIN, Texas–Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa issued a statement following reporting that President-Elect Joe Biden will name Jamie Harrison as the new Chair of the Democratic National Committee and Texas Democratic Congressman Filemon Vela (TX-34) as a vice-chair of the Democratic National Committee:

“The Texas Democratic Party congratulates Jamie Harrison on being named as the next DNC chair. Jamie is somebody that I’ve gotten to know very well through his time as the South Carolina Democratic Party Chair. Jamie knows the value of state parties and the multiple reasons why it is so necessary to continue to invest in local communities and state parties. He knows what it takes to win in tough places. Jamie will lead the DNC with distinction, build innovative programs, back up Democrats at every level of government, and build towards a better future for all.

“I’d also like to congratulate my friend, Congressman Filemon Vela. Congressman Vela has worked his entire career to improve the lives and livelihoods of hard-working people, particularly those in the Latino community. He has served with honor in the House of Representatives for the past seven years. He knows the lives of Americans across our border, and he knows what it takes to deliver results for them.

“Texas Democrats are extremely proud of Congressman Vela and congratulate him on this well-deserved opportunity to serve our entire Party. Texans everywhere can be proud to know that one of their own is working to develop the national priorities of our Party that will make their lives better, as well as strategies to increase Democratic participation across our nation.

“I congratulate my dear friends Jamie Harrison and  Congressman Vela on their appointments and thank President-elect Joe Biden for his wise decisions. Texas Democrats are proud to have two allies leading the DNC.”
