Texas Democrats Celebrate Labor Day

AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa issued the following statement on Labor Day:

“Happy Labor Day, Texas! Today, we celebrate the working people who are the backbone of our state — and the unions that continue to be a voice for working people everywhere.

“Texas workers keep our towns and cities running, keep our families safe and healthy, and keep our communities strong. From farmers to energy workers, folks in the service industry to frontline health workers, teachers to community leaders, and so many more, working Texans push our state forward every single day. On Labor Day, we celebrate their contributions, and uplift the unions that continue to lead the fight for the rights of working Texans.

“In just eight months in office, President Biden has moved the dial for working families across our country. He’s put money in families’ pockets through the Child Tax Credit and the American Rescue Plan, and has been a key voice for our unions by advocating for the PRO Act. He’s gotten our economy back on track and poised for the strongest growth in decades. He’s created millions of good, well-paying jobs — and with his historic infrastructure plan, he’s set to create millions more. This is what leadership looks like — and Texans are benefitting every single day because President Biden puts working people first.

“The past year and a half has been an incredibly difficult one for Texans, and today, the rights of working people remain under attack. From putting workers at risk of getting sick from COVID, to making it harder for working people to vote, to slashing workers’ healthcare and even the basic right to take a water break on a hot day — Texas Republicans are waging an all-out war on working families across our state. The Texas Democratic Party is the party of working people in Texas, and Democrats are fighting every single day on behalf of working Texans. We will never stop pushing for a better future for workers across our state — and fighting to elect leaders who put people first.

“This Labor Day, I encourage everyone to honor the hard work of Texans in every community — and show up in the fight for the rights of working folks.”
