U.S. Senate

July 15, 2020, 9:00 am CT:

In the race for the U.S. Senate, Texas Democrats applaud MJ Hegar for winning the Democratic nomination. MJ embodies the values of Texas: she is tough, hard-working, independent and has spent her career serving her country and fellow Texans.

“MJ Hegar is a decorated combat veteran and working mom, and Texans will be lucky to have her fighting for them as their next senator. MJ embodies the values of Texas: she is tough, hard-working, independent, and has spent her career serving her country and fellow Texans,” said Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa.

“I also want to thank Senator Royce West for running a well-fought race. Senator West has been fighting for Texans for decades and I know my good friend will continue that fight in the Texas Legislature. We will need his partnership to flip our state this November. It is going to take all Texans coming together to demand change,” Hinojosa continued.

“MJ has proven herself to be a formidable campaigner and a relentless advocate for health care, while Senator Cornyn has proven himself to be an unpopular and out-of-touch incumbent who deserves to lose his seat. Texas Democrats are ready for this race and Senator John Cornyn will be exposed for the self-serving career politician he has become during nearly two decades in Washington. I look forward to November when Texans will send MJ Hegar to the US Senate and John Cornyn into retirement.”

Alongside MJ’s campaign, the Texas Democratic Party will defeat John Cornyn in the fall, flip Texas up and down the ballot, and bring new Democratic leadership to the U.S. Senate.
