Texas Democrats honor Dr. Martin Luther King on National Day of Service

Today, the Texas Democratic Party is honoring Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy through National Day of Service. We’re encouraging all Texas Democrats to make a difference here at home. Dr. Martin Luther King was a visionary: he saw clearly what a just, equal America would look like, and spent his life working to make that vision a reality. Today, we celebrate the legacy of the Civil Rights movement, and all those who have carried the fight for racial justice forward.

Last year, we saw both how far we’ve come and how painfully far we have left to go. We mourned the death of John Lewis, and flooded the streets to protest the murder of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and far too many Black Americans who have been victims of police brutality. We took that cry for justice to the polls. Thanks to the millions who organized, rose up, and cast their vote, we defeated a white supremacist and elected Joe Biden — and Kamala Harris will soon be sworn in as the first-ever Black woman to serve as our vice president.

Day by day, action by action, we continue to push forward towards that more just future. Our Texas Democratic movement is strong and growing — and we have a lot of work ahead of us. We must continue the struggle for racial justice, and we must keep fighting for a fair shot for all. Today, on National Day of Service, let’s be there for our neighbors who are facing food insecurity. This issue affects over four million Texans — kids, veterans, seniors, Texans with disabilities, and working families in every Texas county.
