Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa issued the following statement:
“A Democratic wave is coming to Texas in 2018. Since the election of Donald Trump, we’ve seen an unprecedented number of Texas Democrats and progressives speak out, march, organize, and announce for public office. The candidate filing period is now open and it’s time for Democrats to make it official.
“There’s no doubt in my mind, Texas Democrats win on progressive, kitchen-table issue campaigns. We’ll be fighting for everyone’s fair shot to get ahead. Great public schools, affordable healthcare, and an economy that brings back the middle class, that’s what Texas Democrats are all about.
“The eyes of the nation will be on Texas in 2018. The best way to stop Donald Trump and take back the U.S House is through Texas congressional races. The future of the national Democratic Party starts right here, because our great state is young, increasingly diverse, and just had the best presidential margin in two decades. Texas is changing and it’s time to run.”
