AUSTIN, Texas — With the holidays approaching, Texans have faced bad news on multiple fronts because of Gov. Greg Abbott’s disastrous policies — from a power grid still at high risk of failure, to ICUs out of beds for the second week in a row due to Abbott’s dangerous COVID response. However, thanks to President Biden, Texas is catching a break — with multiple indicators showing our economy is on the come-up this month.
Since taking office in January, President Biden has taken aggressive action to get our economy back on track and give small businesses and working families a much-needed boost, including:
- Passing the American Rescue Plan despite opposition from every single Republican in Congress — putting money back in the pockets of a majority of American families.
- Delivering billions of dollars in economic relief to millions of small businesses, also through the American Rescue Plan.
- Implementing the Child Tax Credit, which is helping parents cover the high costs of raising kids each month.
These efforts are paying off. This week, Texans learned that supply chain bottlenecks, a pandemic-era issue affecting businesses large and small, are finally easing thanks to Biden’s leadership — just in time to help Texas small businesses as they gear up for the holidays. Earlier this fall, we also saw jobless claims drop to an all-time low for the pandemic — evidence of a strong and rebounding economy. Now, the passage of Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal is set to continue the progress by creating millions of good, well-paying jobs for workers in Texas and beyond — while the Build Back Better plan, now passed by the U.S. House, will further lower costs for working families and make it easier for Texans to get the health care and child care they need.
Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa issued the following statement:
“This Thanksgiving, Texans have President Biden to thank for an economy on the come-up and small businesses reopening in time for the holidays. Because of President Biden’s aggressive leadership to get our economy back on track, small businesses have been able to keep their doors open — and COVID supply chain problems are finally getting fixed, so that Texans can shop local with ease this holiday season.
“President Biden ran on the promise to rebuild our economy so it works for everyone, not just those at the top. Democrats are delivering on that promise with every day — whether it’s creating millions of good jobs for working Americans with the Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal, or helping Texans cover the costs of child care and health care with the Build Back Better plan for working families. This Thanksgiving, I’m grateful to have a president who’s delivering for Texas families — and I encourage Texans to shop local and keep growing our economy by supporting our small businesses this holiday season.”
