Trump’s Broken Health Care Promises Among the Cruelest To-Date

Trump’s Texas-sized lie in 2015: “We will do something really good with health care”

DALLAS, TX – Over four years ago, in another Dallas campaign rally, Donald Trump proclaimed: “We will do something really good with health care, where it’ll be better for the people, and cheaper for the United States.”

Nothing could’ve been more further from the truth.

Donald Trump, John Cornyn, and Texas Republicans are waging an all-out attack to take health care away from millions of Americans and end preexisting conditions protections. Trump failed to get it done through Congress, so he decided to be in cahoots with indicted Texas Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton to sabotage the Affordable Care Act and throw our health care system into chaos:

  • Trump’s health care sabotage jeopardizes the significant gains made by Texans – as many as 1.7 million could lose their insurance.

  • Trump promised to protect preexisting condition protections. Instead, he’s backing indicted Paxton’s lawsuit that jeopardizes preexisting condition protections for as many as 11 million Texans.

  • Despite Trump’s pledge to protect Medicaid, he proposed billions in cuts to the program that 16% of Texans rely on for health care coverage.

  • To this date, Republicans have spent nearly 10 years trying to derail the Affordable Care Act — and still don’t have a replacement plan.

Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa issued the following statement:

“Four years ago, Trump promised to do ‘something really good with health care,’ and four years later he shows up again in Dallas with nothing to show. There is absolutely nothing good about attempting to take away health care from millions of Americans and ending preexisting conditions protections – it’s just plain cruel. Texas Democrats fight to protect health care from the con man in the White House and his cronies like health care repeal’s ‘top salesman’ John Cornyn, and you better believe we will do it again at every turn.”
