On the Cruz Bus, Texans Take a Backseat
AUSTIN, Texas – As he kicks off his bus tour today, a reminder that Ted Cruz only cares about himself, not Texans. Cruz has spent years working to take away reproductive freedom, fighting to overturn Roe protections and implement the Texas abortion ban, and now he refuses to own his actions.
“Ted Cruz will do anything to distract from the fact that he’s the reason Texans are facing a threat to their Social Security and Medicare and an abortion ban that threatens their lives,” said Texas Democratic Party spokesperson Ryan Radulovacki.
Ted Cruz continues trying to run from his support for the Texas abortion ban:
Dallas Morning News: “When pressed on his views of Texas abortion restrictions and whether their should be exceptions for rape or incest, Cruz retreated”
Fort Worth Star-Telegram: “Cruz did not say whether he personally supports Texas’ abortion law and adding exceptions for rape and incest to it, when pressed”
San Antonio Express-News: “Cruz has largely avoided talking about abortion rights during this campaign. He declined multiple requests to answer questions about his stances”
KXAN Austin: “He doesn't talk about abortion unless he is asked point blank.”
Dallas Observer: “In the past, Cruz has been vocal about his support for stricter abortion bans, but he’s remained mostly silent in the last year as Texas women have come forward about the negative impact state laws have had on their pregnancies.”
The Bulwark: “Ted Cruz Has Suddenly Gotten Quiet on Abortion”
The Guardian: “The notoriously verbose Ted Cruz has gone largely silent on abortion”
The New Republic: “The Texas senator once embraced anti-abortion zealot Troy Newman, who has written that Jews and Planned Parenthood share a ‘bloodguilt.’ Now he won’t discuss him.”
NY Mag: “[Cruz’s] “reputation for extremism on abortion may be wrong-footing him given his state’s terrible reputation for downright cruelty in every imaginable situation involving reproductive rights.”
