Chairman Hinojosa Releases Statement of Support for Texas House Democrats’ Push for Pregnancy-Related Death Data
AUSTIN, Texas -- Today, Texas Democratic Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa released the following statement of support for State Representative Shawn Thierry and Texas House Democrats in their efforts to receive overdue data on pregnancy-related deaths and other maternal health data from the State of Texas:
“I applaud Representative Thierry and the dozens of House Democrats who today fought for transparency from Republican leaders who have so clearly committed a fatal injustice against our state and now wish to cover up the evidence.
“We know why Greg Abbott, Dan Patrick, Ken Paxton, and their Republican cronies are withholding this crucial data from Texans. When this data is finally released, it will show all Texans conclusive evidence of what we have cried out for decades: that restricting abortion care has horrific and fatal consequences for women.
“As I said last week when the Houston Chronicle first uncovered this story: whether or not Greg Abbott succeeds in covering up the evidence of the fatal disaster he’s created with his abortion ban, we are still angry beyond reproach. And – to save the lives of our fellow Texans – in 50 days, we will vote these extremists out of office.”
