Chairman Hinojosa Releases Statement on the Start of Early Voting in Texas
AUSTIN, Texas -- Today, Texas Democratic Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa released the following statement on the start of early voting in Texas:
“This is truly the most consequential midterm election in Texas history.
“Lives are on the ballot – from our broken electric grid, which Greg Abbott and Texas Republicans still haven’t fixed after 700 Texans died during last year’s winter storm; to our broken gun laws, which Greg Abbott and Texas Republicans still haven’t reformed even after countless mass shootings and the slaughter of innocent babies; to our state’s draconian abortion ban with no exceptions for rape or incest, which Greg Abbott and Texas Republicans forced on us despite knowing full well that it would literally kill women, which is why they’re still hiding the latest data on maternal mortality in our state.”
“Don’t wait to go vote. Just as you wouldn’t buy Christmas presents on Christmas Day, make sure you’re squared away as early as possible and that your vote is in the bank.
“Vote Democratic every single line of the ballot. Too many Republicans, even at the most local level, have unfortunately proven themselves to be bad-faith actors – and, as the last couple of years have shown in painful detail, local elected officials are the ones who make critical decisions about our health, safety and democracy.
“This is a one-point race: Beto O’Rourke can, in fact, win this election. But only if we all get out and vote in record numbers. Only if every part of our Democratic big tent – youth, seniors, Black, white, Latino, AAPI, LGBT, veterans, and all the other links in our chain – band together and show up to the polls.
“So vote early. Vote Democratic. Text your families, friends, and coworkers and remind them to do the same. And let’s go win this damn thing.”
The Texas Democratic Party is urging you to be an October Voter! Vote early and be one of the first people in the state to cast your ballot for Beto and all our other great Democratic candidates. Early voting starts today and runs through Friday, November 4.
