Donald Trump Looks to Rip Away Affordable Health Care From Texans With Preexisting Conditions
AUSTIN, Texas – Today, Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa released the following statement in response to Donald Trump threatening to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA), which could raise healthcare costs and jeopardize coverage for millions of Texans, including 4.8 million with preexisting conditions.
“Donald Trump is running on an agenda to make America sicker – doubling down on his push to terminate the Affordable Care Act that has provided Texans with lifesaving healthcare for over a decade. Trump’s vision for Texas is to kick people off their insurance, skyrocket health care costs, and roll back President Biden’s work to make prescription drugs more affordable. While Republicans continue trying to gut lifesaving policies, Texas Democrats and President Biden are fighting to make healthcare more affordable and accessible for Texans and all Americans,” said Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa.
Here’s a look at what the Affordable Care Act has delivered:
Insured more than 40 million Americans
Lowered costs for families
Required insurance companies to cover Americans with preexisting conditions
Allowed young people under 26 to stay on their parents’ insurance plan
Ended lifetime caps on essential care a person can receive
Stopped women from having to pay more for coverage simply because of their gender
