Don’t Let Him Fool You: Ted Cruz Voted Against Bringing Jobs & Investment to Texas

Cruz has falsely claimed credit for Texas projects the CHIPS Act created

AUSTIN, Texas – Yesterday, the House passed the Building Chips in America Act, a bipartisan bill that would streamline permitting and help CHIPS Act projects get done in a timely manner. This bipartisan bill was co-led in the House by Congressman Colin Allred as well as Texas Republican Congressman Michael McCaul. The bill now heads to the President’s desk to become law, which will help create Texas jobs.

The original CHIPS and Science Act has now brought billions in new investment to Texas – from $1.6 billion to Dallas-based Texas Instruments to construct three new plants, including two in Sherman, to $6.4 billion for Samsung’s plant in Taylor.

A bipartisan coalition of Texans worked to pass this landmark legislation – including McCaul, Kay Granger, and Colin Allred, joined by Sen. John Cornyn.

But Ted Cruz voted against it. Classic “Me” guy.

Houston Chronicle: “In 2022, Cruz voted against fellow Texas Republican U.S. Sen. John Cornyn’s microchip manufacturing legislation… During a campaign stop in San Antonio on Tuesday touting his job creation record, Cruz acknowledged he voted against the bill”

NBC DFW: “Despite voting No on bill, Sen. Cruz ‘enthusiastic' for CHIPS Act projects in Texas”

CBS Austin: “The federal money for the chipmaking operation in Taylor comes from the CHIPS Act, something Senator Cornyn supported but fellow Republican Texas US Senator Ted Cruz did not.”

Texas Democratic Party spokesperson Ryan Radulovacki said:

“Ted Cruz is that guy in class who never contributes to the group project but wants to take all the credit. Colin Allred worked hand in hand with Republicans like Michael McCaul, Kay Granger, and John Cornyn to get CHIPS across the finish line – Ted Cruz, as usual, only cares about himself.”
