MAGA Republicans in Meltdown
AUSTIN, Texas – Today, MAGA Republicans from the Texas House to the U.S. Capitol Hill doubled down on the chaos brewing within their respective chambers. In Texas, Speaker Dade Phelan reasserted his previous condemnation of Republican Party of Texas (RPT) Chair Matt Rinaldi’s ties to white supremacist-backed Defend Texas Liberty PAC — all while Texas House Republicans are still scrambling to align on passing school voucher scams in Greg Abbott’s now fourth called special session.
In Washington, Congressional Republicans displayed childish acts of violence, like physically threatening Teamster leadership during a Senate committee hearing while verbal and physical altercations broke out amongst House leadership in the same time period. Additionally, the newly elected U.S. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) did not achieve full Party support when passing the temporary spending budget – delivering a blow to any claim that the MAGA Republican Party is aligned under Speaker Johnson’s leadership. And to top off this day of chaos, podcast host and jetsetter Ted Cruz voted to support Tommy Tuberville’s blockade of military leadership nominations – confirming that MAGA extremists are committed to playing political games, no matter the associated national security risks.
Texas Democratic Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa issued the following statement:
“MAGA extremists are destroying the Republican Party from the inside out and taking working families down with them in the process. In Texas, Greg Abbott and Matt Rinaldi’s authoritarian approach to leadership has led to irreparable divisions within Party and elected leadership – resulting in millions of wasted taxpayer dollars and delayed progress within our state. And in Washington, Congressional Republicans are recklessly engaging in public displays of deplorable behavior that reflect their own internal battles as a governing body. When MAGA Republican extremists continue to broadcast their disdain for each other and government entities as a whole – we cannot expect their Party to do the hard work of governing and representing the working families in their districts.
“From the State Capitol to Capitol Hill – Texas Democrats are showing up for their constituents united and ready to work. We thank our Democrats in Congress for voting to avoid a government shutdown ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday, and we look forward to squashing school voucher scams once again with our Texas House Democrats in the Pink Dome later this week.”
