Interim Executive Director Birk Wilkison to serve as TDP Deputy Executive Director
AUSTIN, Texas -- Today, the Texas Democratic Party is announcing that Monique Alcala will serve as its permanent Executive Director. Alcala brings over a decade of political, nonprofit, and government experience to the Party – including high-profile roles as a Congressional aide, on the Biden for President campaign in 2020, and most recently as the Southwest Regional Director for EMILY’s List.
“We’re thrilled to be able to welcome Monique to the Texas Democratic Party,” said Texas Democratic Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa. “Through our extensive search for a new executive director, I found Monique to be among the most talented, thoughtful, and diligent political experts we’ve seen. I am excited for this new chapter in our Party’s history – and look forward to Monique bringing her wealth of experience to our efforts to turn Texas blue.”
“Texas is THE battleground of battlegrounds,” said incoming Texas Democratic Party Executive Director Monique Alcala. “I’m grateful to Chairman Hinojosa for this opportunity and thankful for the staff and many advisors to the Chair who participated in the Executive Director search process. I am honored to join the Texas Democratic Party, and every party leader, activist, and candidate across Texas, in our collective fight to turn Texas blue. We have a lot of work ahead of us, but I know that, together, we can bring Democratic victory to Texas in 2024 and in election cycles to come!”
In addition to Alcala’s new leadership position, interim Executive Director Birk Wilkison will remain at the organization on a full-time basis as the new Deputy Executive Director. Wilkison has worked as a political operative in Texas for over a decade, including as a Democratic advisor in the Texas Legislature and nearly half a decade with the Texas Democratic Party. Before coming back to the Party, Wilkison was most recently the Campaigns Director at Austin-based Y Strategy.
