John Cornyn Succumbs to Pressure and Breaks Silence on Kate Cox, Ted Cruz Position on Abortion Exceptions Remains Unclear
AUSTIN, Texas – Today, after previously dodging questions about the Kate Cox legal case, John Cornyn finally broke his silence with a brief statement during a press appearance. Unsurprisingly, Senator Cornyn praised the Texas Supreme Court for its interpretation of the current abortion ban and doubled down on his Party’s belief that the government should have the power to force a woman to give birth, even when her life is at risk.
Texas Democratic Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa issued the following statement:
“To quote Sen. Cornyn – this “period of transition” after the overturning of Roe v. Wade has shown just how far MAGA Republicans are willing to go to force women to give birth at the expense of their long-term health, or sometimes even their lives. And while they attempt to backpedal their extreme stances on government overreach and exceptions for abortion care – Texas women will never forget the wrath of the cruelty bestowed upon them. If John Cornyn wants to try to be on the right side of abortion policy then he can try joining the Democratic Party – but Republicans are too far gone to take us back from the grips of the oppressive government they’ve forced upon us.
“And while Ted Cruz continues to cower from the press in regards to his stance on abortion bans, the Texas Democratic Party’s stance is loud, clear and unwavering: No child or adult should be forced to carry a pregnancy to term against their will. Texans started on the front lines of the fight for nationwide accessible abortion care and we plan to finish it. The next Democratic U.S. Senator from Texas will be the vote to codify abortion access. The next Democratic Justices of the Texas Supreme Court will be the votes to overturn dangerous state abortion bans. The next Democratic State Legislators will be the votes to codify abortion here in Texas. All of this is on the ballot in 2024. We can do this. We can get it done.”
