Ted Cruz and John Cornyn Dodge Duty to Constituents to Appease Billionaire Mega-Donor Harlan Crow

AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Democratic Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa issued the following statement on Texas U.S. Senators fleeing Senate Judiciary hearing in an attempt to protect Harlan Crow: 

“Ted Cruz is no stranger to fleeing the job when it gets tough – and when it comes to governance, John Cornyn is nothing but a follower. Sadly, this is the behavior that Texans have come to expect from their United States Senators: two grifters committed to ignoring their responsibility to defend our Constitution in order to protect their billionaire friends like Harlan Crow. The facts speak for themselves – Harlan Crow, a Dallas-based mega-donor, is currently under investigation for showering Clarence Thomas with lavish gifts and vacations all while having business pending before the Supreme Court, and the two Senators from Texas absconded from the U.S. Senate Judiciary hearing set to subpoena Harlan Crow’s finances. The line of corruption could not be more clear, and it would be in the best interest of the two Senators from Texas to end this ridiculousness and get back to work for Texans and the American people. We look forward to sending Ted Cruz packing next November and electing a U.S. Senator who is willing to stand up for the truth instead of scurrying away and refusing to do his job of voting in committee.”
