Texas Democratic Party Statement on Greg Abbott Denying Representation to 800,000 Texans in 18th Congressional District
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Governor Greg Abbott has called special elections for vacant congressional seats in a timely manner before – in one case just days after a vacancy – yet he refuses to do so for Texas’ 18th congressional district. Today, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries said his caucus may sue Abbott for continuing to deny Texans the representation they deserve.
Texas Democratic Party Chairman Kendall Scudder issued the following statement:
“The entire country can see what Greg Abbott is up to right now – GOP power in the U.S. House hangs by a thread, and he’s unjustly denying nearly 800,000 Texans representation. It’s just one more example of the way Texas Republicans continue to undermine the people of Texas in the name of holding on to political power.
“Our advice to Greg Abbott: Call an emergency election, or lawyer up.”
