Texas Democratic Party Statement on President Biden’s State of the Union Address

AUSTIN, Texas – Today, Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa released the following statement in response to President Biden’s State of the Union address: 

“Tonight, President Biden proved once again that he is the leader that cares the most about Texas’ prosperity and security. The contrast between President Biden’s vision for the future of our country and Trump’s couldn’t be clearer. While President Biden is focused on bettering the lives of Texas working families and defending their hard-fought freedoms, Donald Trump’s top priority is ripping away their rights and security. As Trump doubles down on his pledge to be a ‘dictator on day one’ and make the wealthy richer off the backs of working families, President Biden remains committed to defending our democracy, building our economy from the bottom up and the middle out, and making sure the wealthy and corporations pay their fair share. 

“President Biden sent a powerful message to voters nationwide by showcasing the reality that Texans are facing under MAGA leadership. Kate Cox’s story shocked the country when extremists denied her a life-saving abortion upon a Trisomy-18 diagnosis, forcing her to travel out of state to receive necessary healthcare. And the nation, especially here in Texas, is continuing to mourn with Jazmin Carazes whose sister was slain by an 18-year-old shooter with a weapon of war at Robb Elementary School – just months after MAGA Republicans passed reckless gun laws in Texas.

“From reproductive healthcare cruelty, rampant gun violence, MAGA Republican chaos and border security – it’s clear that Texas is at the center of the 2024 General Election. Texans understand the stakes in this election and know that the only way to keep building on all the progress we’ve made is reelecting President Biden and Vice President Harris to a second term in November.”
