Texas Democrats on Judge Maya Guerra Gamble’s Life-Saving Abortion Ruling

AUSTIN, Texas – Today, Judge Maya Guerra Gamble ruled that Kate Cox of Dallas could seek a life-saving and medically necessary abortion. After doctors diagnosed her fetus with full trisomy 18, an almost always fatal condition, she sought a temporary restraining order (TRO) from Texas’ draconian abortion ban that, if the TRO had not been granted, likely would have risked her own personal health if she had been forced to carry the pregnancy to term. Ken Paxton’s prosecutors fought Ms. Cox’s request every step of the way, and may continue to. 

Texas Democratic Party Executive Director Monique Alcala released the following statement: 

“Our hearts go out to the Cox family during this difficult time. Unfortunately, Kate Cox is just one of countless Texas women who have had their own lives thrown into peril because of Texas’ draconian abortion ban. While Ken Paxton continues his dangerous and deeply unpopular crusade to put more women’s lives in jeopardy, we are laser-focused on electing more Democrats to repeal Texas’ abortion ban in the legislature, codify Roe in Congress, and fight for women’s rights in Texas’ judicial system. Texas Democrats are grateful for Judge Guerra Gamble’s courage in granting Ms. Cox’s request for a TRO, to allow her to seek the life-saving care she needs and deserves.
