Texas Democrats Unequivocally Condemn the Rise of Antisemitism and Islamophobia in Texas

AUSTIN, Texas – Today, Texas Democratic Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa issued a statement to unequivocally condemn the rise of antisemitism and Islamophobia in Texas and across the United States:

“The Texas Democratic Party mourns with the world in the wake of the devastating terrorist attacks in Israel and the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza over the last month. Our Jewish, Muslim, Sikh, Arab, Palestinian, and South Asian Texas communities are shaken with anger, fear and profound sadness due to the spike in antisemitic and Islamophobic rhetoric and hate crimes thrust upon them as a result of these attacks. We say to these communities: Texas Democrats – from elected officials to activists – stand in solidarity with you and your loved ones as we combat any and all forms of antisemitism and Islamophobia in our communities.

“We express our deepest condolences to the family of Dr. Talat Jehan Khan, who was killed while sitting at a park bench in Conroe, Texas by a presumed radicalized individual late last month. Additionally, we extend thanks to the Justice Department, FBI and local law enforcement for monitoring credible threats across Texas. We must continue to unequivocally disavow any trace of hateful rhetoric towards Texas communities impacted by antisemitism and Islamophobia so that not one more person is subjected to violence in our workplaces, schools, and neighborhoods. Our children are watching, and Texas Democrats are committed to creating a state in which our next generation leads with empathy and compassion – not hatred, spite and bigotry.”
