Texas Republican Dumpster Fire: Texas Democrats Respond to Chaotic First Day
AUSTIN, Texas – Today marked the start of the biennial Texas Republican Convention in San Antonio, Texas. The MAGA takeover of the RPT is on full display with speakers touting their extreme ideologies and policy items that will restrict our freedoms, harm working-families, weaken our democracy and impair public safety.
Here’s what Texas Democrats from across the state are saying about the 2024 Texas Republican Convention:
“If you take away the hypocrisy, disinformation, and fear-mongering, there’s nothing much left other than bad music and dangling puppet strings,” said Texas State Senator Nathan Johnson.
“All I saw was a corrupt Attorney General rallying his party around more corruption, based on rampant lies. God help Texas,” said Texas House Representative Ann Johnson.
“Republicans have made Texas ground zero for MAGA laws that put the lives of pregnant women at risk. And now, we are facing threats to IVF treatment and contraception restrictions. Democrats are the only ones championing the restoration of reproductive freedoms – and they will learn the consequences at the ballot box,” said Texas House Representative Rhetta Bowers.
“Just months ago, Republicans in Washington refused to vote on the strongest bipartisan border security bill in years. To hear the Texas Republicans declare that they are the party of border security and safety is laughable. They are not serious about keeping our country safe – they’re only interested in keeping Trump happy,” said Texas House Representative Eddie Morales.
