Texas Democratic Party Announces New Organizing Director and Expanded Commitment to Year-Round Organizing

AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas Democratic Party is proud to announce the appointment of Katy Schmader as the new Organizing Director, reinforcing the Party’s commitment to building year-round organizing infrastructure across the state. In this role, Schmader will lead efforts to strengthen grassroots engagement, support county parties, and mobilize voters in each corner of Texas.

“Texas is my home; it’s where I started my journey in politics, and I’ve long believed in the need for sustained, year-round organizing to make real change happen,” said Schmader. “We know that flipping this state won’t happen overnight, but by investing in our people, our counties, and our communities — we can build the long-term infrastructure needed to win.”

Schmader’s political career began as a phone banking volunteer for Beto O’Rourke’s 2018 Senate campaign. In 2020, she left her job as a Special Education teacher to become a full-time organizer. Since then, she has played a key role in Democratic campaigns across Texas, managing Luke Warford’s 2022 campaign for Texas Railroad Commission and serving as a Regional Organizing Director for the Texas Offense initiative.

In her new position, Schmader is prioritizing collaboration with county chairs and local leaders to ensure communities have the support they need. She is committed to listening to grassroots organizers and building a strategy that reflects the needs of Texans from every walk of life.

“This work doesn’t happen alone,” Schmader added. “County leaders, volunteers, and activists are the backbone of our movement, and I’m eager to work alongside them to create lasting change in Texas.”

The Texas Democratic Party’s renewed focus on organizing reflects a larger strategy to invest in local infrastructure, empower grassroots leadership, and lay the groundwork for Democratic victories in 2026 and beyond.
