ICYMI: Texas School Children Could Face Deportation Without Parental Notice per Alice ISD Letter to Families
AUSTIN, Texas – This week, a South Texas school district sent a chilling letter to students and parents, warning them of the danger their children could face on school buses due to MAGA-backed immigration raids. The Trump-Vance Administration is now allowing ICE to enter Texas' most sacred public spaces like schools, hospitals, and churches. As the state ramps up for immigration crackdown, many school districts and workplaces are issuing similar guidelines in an abundance of caution to keep their communities safe.
Texas Democratic Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa issued the following statement:
“Our children are terrified, living in a constant state of anxiety as they lie awake at night, wondering if they and their family will be the next targets of the MAGA-backed immigration raids. Don’t believe anyone when they say children on buses or in school are safe from deportation. When ICE is deporting DACA recipients in their classrooms and workplaces – no one is safe. We must protect our children from the fascist policies of the Trump-Vance administration, Abbott, and the backdoor billionaires that pull their strings."
Dallas Morning News: Alice ISD warns of school bus immigration raids By Sarah Bahari
A Texas school district warned families this week that U.S. Border Patrol agents may be checking the immigration status of students riding on school buses.
Thursday evening, Alice ISD said it sent the initial letter out of an abundance of caution and to help parents make informed decisions. It said it has no knowledge of agents targeting school buses.
President Donald Trump has pledged mass deportations and launched a crackdown on illegal immigration shortly after taking office. His administration rolled back Biden-era guidance that limited federal immigration arrests near sensitive locations, including schools, hospitals and churches.
The changes have left many families across Texas fearful of being deported and separated from loved ones. Mass deportations could hit cities such as Alice, about 45 miles west of Corpus Christi particularly hard. Of the city’s 17,500 residents, 88% are Latino.
