Texas Democrats Issue Statement in Wake of Kansas City Shooting

AUSTIN, Texas – “Every corner of this country is plagued with gun violence as we’ve seen more shootings in 2024 than we have days in the year – and it’s not even March. Missouri’s reckless gun laws mimic that of the laws here in Texas: no background checks, no license to carry, no required training, and no red flag laws. The lack of sensible measures that would keep firearms in the hands of law-abiding citizens instead empowers criminal behavior and creates a recipe for senseless, deadly gun violence. Americans, Missourans, and Texans alike deserve more than to experience traumatic event after traumatic event. Our hearts are with Kansas City as they grapple with this tragedy during what was supposed to be a joyous celebration. And we will continue to pray for the life stolen from their loved ones and the Kansas City community, the 21 victims, including 11 children and 8 with life-threatening injuries,” said Texas Democratic Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa
