Things House Republicans Could Be Working On Instead of Punishing Rep. Al Green for Speaking Truth to Power
AUSTIN, Texas – House Republicans just punished Rep. Al Green (TX-9) for telling Donald Trump “You have no mandate to cut Medicaid.”
After he was removed from the House chamber, Rep. Green said “There are some of us who are going to stand up against this president’s desire to cut Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security.”
He’s right.
Here are a few things House Republicans could be working on instead of punishing Rep. Green for speaking truth to power:
Protecting Social Security from Trump’s cuts, which have meant “wait times for basic phone service have grown, in some cases to hours…” with “delays in reviews of disability claims” according to the Washington Post.
Coming up with a new budget proposal that wouldn’t force significant cuts to Medicare and Medicaid.
Work across the aisle to lower costs, at a time when egg prices are expected to increase by more than 40%.
Save the 100,000 jobs at risk from Trump’s aluminum tariff alone.
…And those of the auto workers in Arlington and across Texas worried about the effect of Trump’s disastrous policies.
Address the grim reality that “Texas stands to take the hardest hit of any state under the Trump tariffs.”
Get to work for the American people instead of wasting their time.
