Three Years Later, Texas Press Haven’t Forgotten Cancún Cruz

AUSTIN, Texas – Texans will never forget when Ted Cruz fled our state for Cancún during a devastating winter storm. Now, as Texans recover from Hurricane Beryl, Cruz’s legacy of abandoning Texas remains top of mind. Take a look:

San Antonio Current: “Ted Cruz tries to tweet about Hurricane Beryl, gets trolled over his Cancun trip”

  • “Three years after taking a family vacation to balmy Cancun while Winter Storm Uri left his constituents shivering — and some even dying — in their homes, Texas' junior senator just can't seem to shake that bad decision.”

Houston Chronicle on Gov. Abbott’s travel out of state:

  • “Some online and in published reports have drawn comparisons to Sen. Ted Cruz's decision to fly to Mexico following Texas' great freeze in 2021”

San Antonio Express-News on a “flow chart of whether one should evacuate during a weather crisis:”

  • “Hurricane Beryl,” the title says. “Do I stay or do I go now?...”  “Is Ted Cruz at the airport?”

Cruz may want to put Cancún behind him. Texans won’t.
