WATCH: After Texans Call Out Cruz, He Refuses to Answer for His Support of Texas Abortion Ban
AUSTIN, Texas – During a sit down with NBC 5’s Phil Prazan, Ted Cruz was asked point blank – three separate times – to answer for his support of Texas’ extreme abortion ban.
And three times, he refused to do it. That’s because he cannot defend an abortion ban that puts women at risk, has no exceptions for rape or incest victims, and has an unworkably narrow exception for the health of the mother.
NBC 5: “You're okay with that status quo – of what's happening right now on abortion in Texas?”
Cruz: “Listen, what the Supreme Court said in Dobbs is that abortion is an issue that divides us…”
NBC 5: “But as a Texan, what's your opinion on what's happening in the state of Texas? Are you at least okay with it?”
Cruz: “Listen, in terms of what the federal government does, the federal government's role, I'll tell you the legislation I've introduced. I’ve introduced…”
NBC 5: [Asking for a third time] “What's your thought about the current laws?”
Cruz: “So, let's be clear. My job is to serve in the United States Senate. So I talked about what I'm doing in the United States Senate.”
